High Dose Vitamin C

Without question, cancer represents one of the most destructive diseases that afflict our species today. Its ubiquity is undeniable, as nearly everyone has a story about how the condition has affected their lives or the lives of loved ones. Part of what makes this disease so sinister is the lack of a decisive cure. Although large scale studies have not confirmed high dose vitamin C as a definitive antidote to cancer, there is certainly strong evidence to suggest its ability to support patients on their path to recovery.

Maintaining the body’s Vitamin C intake is essential in achieving and sustaining optimal health. Vitamin C supports your adrenal glands, improves energy levels, heals and protects skin, strengthens tendons and bones, bolsters immune functions, and can relieve harmful side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. In higher doses, Vitamin C has even been used as an alternative cancer treatment, but this is still considered controversial as no large scale studies have been conducted to reach definitive conclusions around the matter. HOWEVER, the following evidence has led many to believe strongly in the healing properties of high dose vitamin C treatments.

In higher doses, vitamin C transitions from an anti-oxidant, to an oxidant due to the vitamin’s reaction with oxygen and iron in the body’s tissue. This catalyzes the formation of peroxide, which is then used by your immune system to kill foreign invaders and cancer cells. Ascorbate also depletes ATP energy resources and damages the DNA of the cancer. Furthermore, the high dose vitamin C may also be used safely in conjunction with most chemotherapy and radiation. Methotrexate chemotherapy is the exception and IV vitamin C should not be used with this type of chemo. The patient’s oncological team should be made aware of and agree to incorporate vitamin C in the patient’s treatment regimen. The treatment can be used safely in the treatment of terminal cancers which have not responded to chemo and radiation treatment even if it may be of limited use in further killing those cancer cells. In addition to physiological advantages, high dose vitamin C has also been shown to improve the mood and energy of patients, factors which cannot be understated in the holistic battle against cancer.

The Riordan Clinic in Wichita, Kansas has been conducting treatment and research on high dose vitamin C for years and has published a protocol that has since become the standard for high dose vitamin C. We follow this same protocol at our clinic and you may find the full document here: https://riordanclinic.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Riordan_IVC_Protocol.pdf
